ESC Evidence-Based Programs Awarded TN Home Visiting Grant

On March 11th, the Tennessee Department of Health announced a request for applications to fund evidence-based home visiting programs recognized by HRSA in the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program Supplemental Information Request (SIR) Guidance to the States released by on February 8, 2011. With a turnaround time of 2 weeks, all service providers in Shelby County with one or more of the approved EBHV models were called together to develop a response to the State’s request.

The Tennessean reports the state “made its debut outside of the bottom 10 in the national ranking for states, landing at 39.” State officials cite steady reductions in infant mortality, low birth-weight babies, teen death rates and a drastic decrease in teen dropout rates as indicators of improvements.

ESC and Shelby County Early Childhood leaders deliver a community needs assessment

Shelby County Early Childhood leaders deliver a comprehensive assessment to the State of Tennessee to aid in determining future allocation of funds awarded under the Affordable Care Act. The Early Success Coalition’s Needs Assessment identifies the prevalance of risk factors in the Memphis and Shelby County area that are harmful to babies and children (like: low-birth weight, premature births, infant mortality and abuse and neglect to name a few).

Early Success Coalition Receives Notice In Commercial Appeal

The Early Success Coalition received some publicity in the Guest Column in The Commercial Appeal on September 19, 2010. Shelby County Mark Luttrell wrote “Investments in our children early on build fulfilling lives” in which he referred to the efforts of the Early Success Coalition and many of our community partners in supporting healthy early child development. The Mayor recognizes these efforts in early childhood as laying the foundation, not only for success in school, but also in many areas of life. The Mayor acknowledges his responsibility for the success of early childhood initiatives administered through Shelby County Government. He calls for continued investment in the lives of our youngest citizen.

ALL Babies Count Conference On Infant Mortality
